This year I’ve been assigning homework differently after reading about alternative approaches to enhance meaning and engagement in student learning. One of the ideas my students have enjoyed most has been a week of homework projects instead of worksheets. I have been shocked by how much more work some students put into these projects than traditional homework.

Right now my room is full of posters and other projects waiting to be graded after our last cycle of projects on fractions. What has been especially awesome is the way some students are using technology on their own to do this work. Check out the videos Hunter included with his projects that included family interviews about how his family uses fractions. I really like how this got many students investigating “Real World” uses for something we have been in class.
